#BasicKari - SERIES 1 - STAPLES

#BasicKari is a series I created to give all my readers and viewers the most simplistic and straightforward foundations to every meal created. In order to get your final main course at 100%, the base of the meal also has to be at 100%. In this series, there are five staples that we will focus on; Rice, Pasta, Potatoes, Ugali and Chapati. Each one of these is equally as important as the one before, and each staple can yield hundreds of final results depending on the level and type of manipulation. Scroll through the post and find different tips and tricks that will help you excel in the kitchen.

Our first basic staple is Rice. Ooh the things we can do with rice! No matter where you come from, no matter who are, everyone in the world eats rice. My personally favourite is Chinese chicken fried rice wooo! This recipe is such an important foundation of cooking because the way you make your white rice will determine how good your manipulations will taste in the final product.

Next up we have Pasta. I've never met a student who doesn't eat this, or variations of this at least 5 times a week lol. But that should tell you how easy and versatile pasta really is. Whether you want to add sauce, or you want to bake it in the oven, the choice is yours. But we all know, we can never go wrong here!

Our third basic ingredient is potatoes. Although we never really cooked any in this series, we all know well and good that we cannot live without potatoes. There are literally soooo many meals that you can make with potatoes, I can't even list them all! It is safe to say that if you don't have potatoes in your pantry.. you're messing up sis!

Fourth, we have maize meal, which is basically ugali, but can also be used for porridge. This is the ultimate Kenyan staple which many people cannot live without. S/O to my #luhyageng who live and breathe ugali, and for very good reason. According to the Luhya community, this is best served with bitter vegetables and some chicken stew.

And last but not least, we have an international fav! If you don't like my next basic food, then I probably don't like you :D ---- CHAPATIIIIII!!!! Chapati is literally the key to so many peoples' souls. Chapati na nyama, chapati na chai, chapati for breakfast, lunch and dinner and every snack in between.. guys! Chapati for president!! I can literally eat this ALL DAY EVERY DAY and I cannot and will not get tired. My recipe for this is simple, straightforward and foolproof. If you usually struggle to get your chapatis right, this might be the answer you've been looking for, so why not try your hand at it?

That's it for the #BasicKari Staples Series. But not to worry, the next series is on the way so get ready to continue sharpening the foundations of your cooking skills.
